"Our reason for choosing to equip all of our fleet of ambulances and cars and bikes with an EMMA in every grab bag was because our experience has shown that despite having 12 lead LifePak (Medtronic) equipment statically fixed to ambulances, we have found that in life and death critical emergency situations the first minutes (4-5) is the ‘key time’, and that our statistics have shown that we intubated 90% of the time in these circumstances off ambulance; in the home, at workplace or at a crash site, where simply getting the LifePak off ambulance is to difficult and wastes valuable time in such critical times when every second really counts. Up-turned vehicles in a ditch and in a remote location we need truly portable life saving equipment and EMMA does the job. EMMA has provided our organisation and emergency medical teams with the tools to help saves lives and they know that when they leave the ambulance to attend a critical emergency they have everything they need in the grab bag and its those early minutes stabilising the patient at the scene which are proven to be the most vital in ensuring patient recovery."

"EMMA is just a fantastic bit of kit it is something that should be in every emergency medical bag. We used EMMA on an emergency call with Great North Air Ambulance and we used it throughout in pre-hospital and into theatre to maintain patient monitoring, it was really a great tool to have so portable, clear to read and quick to use and certainly helped with ensuring proper patient intubation."

"It feels very safe and secure when using EMMA when transporting patients within the hospital using a simple transport ventilator, the patient may for example end up in the RTG department for many hours. These patient groups are often sensitive to Hypo- or Hyperventilation and with EMMA we now have an easy way of keeping track of the patient’s ventilation."

"Used the EMMA in theatre today, was impressed. Have to say the instant read out is good in the induction room to prove intubation, and I had to transfer someone from theatre to ICU - was invaluable as no portable vent and the CO2 line on the Datex was missing.”

"I have used EMMA Emergency Capnometer in my capacity as Lead HEMS Consultant; we deploy 3 Air Ambulances and provide airborne emergency response operations. For us it goes without saying weight on aircraft is an issue. Up until now Capnometers were very large, expensive, difficult to use and required long warm-up times before use. EMMA has been fantastic for use everywhere from the field, theatre to ICU. EMMA provides immediate readings of both End tidal C02 and respiratory rate, is truly portable and with the disposable airway adapters makes it the most adaptable mainstream capnometer and ideal for emergency response and critical care teams."

"The members of SIMCAS identified that they needed assurance in the intubated patient of impeccable control of C02 and ventilation. Any pre-hospital device has to be portable, reliable in the harsh environment, easy to read in poor weather or darkness, accurate and precise. Evaluation showed that the EMMA portable mainstream capnometer fulfilled all of our criteria for airway management. The day after delivery, one of our trainers was called to a cardiac arrest patient whom he and his trainees successfully resuscitated and then anaesthetised. EMMA provided dependable C02 readings and the patient was delivered to hospital in excellent condition and normocapnic."
Dr Alan Pearce,
Chairman of SIMCAS

"The autonomous EMMA ETCO2 monitor let me verify the fissure of glottis during arduous trachea intubation and avoid erroneous placing of endotracheal tube into the oesophagus.
EMMA is so easy to use in emergency cases – it has no extra connectors, network interfaces, complicated calibration procedures, while it is very mobile, compact and fast to start measuring. This saves nerves, time and effort in emergency. I have also used EMMA in ICU when performing sanational brochoscopy in patients on artificial lung ventilation and also in patients with high-frequency jet lung ventilation. In both groups ETCO2 measurement helped to optimize respiratory support and adjust hypo- hypercapnia correction. I can recommend EMMA Monitor with all its brilliant technical specifications to be used in Emergency and ICU. It noticeably helps to improve general monitoring quality and boosts life risk syndrome recognition."

"In the emergency medicine setting on site use of capnometry devices is currently low - in most cases due to low onset of measurement and a comparably high price. Despite of that, appropriate measurement of etCO2 is crucial however - confirmation of correct endotracheal intubation, as well as adequate ventilation settings are essential for the prognosis of critical patient. In our system of EMS in Wiener Neustadt, which runs both ground ambulance and also physician staffed helicopters, we tried the EMMA system. It worked without any problems during CPR (including repeated attempts of defibrillation), in flight as well as in mountain rescue operation. Correctness of measurement, fast onset and reliability of the device were convincing. Due to the smooth handling we used it in our ICU and ED also, especially during intrahospital transportation and invasive procedures like bronchoscopy, too. To our experience, EMMA is an additional tool in the field of miniaturized, though trustworthy monitoring devices."

"We have had the EMMA Emergency Capnometer at the Great North Air Ambulance for several months, and have found it fantastic for pre hospital use. The immediate readings of both end tidal carbon dioxide and respiratory rate have proven invaluable in confirming intubation of the trachea and then maintaining ventilation. It is truly portable and lightweight, making it ideal for our emergency response bags, and with disposable airway adaptors it is easy to maintain. As it uses normal batteries, there is no need for complicated battery management. I certainly believe it has added to the safety of our operation for a minimal outlay."
Dr. Jeremy Henning,
Lt Col & Lead HEMS Consultant

"I have been using EMMA, a compact portable emergency mainstream capnometer on all my patients with secure (LMA’s) or definitive (ETT’s) in the out-of-hospital arena for almost a year now. With no warm-up time EMMA displays ETC02 values after one breath and respiratory rate values after the second breath which update every breath thereafter. EMMA can be quickly and directly connected to an endotracheal tube, laryngeal mask or facial mask via the disposable airway adapters. Initially I trialed the EMMA in a controlled environment in theatres comparing the accuracy with the anaesthetic side-stream monitors and was favorably impressed."
